Mind you, the Dragon Shouts in Skyrim were cool and were part and parcel of the whole Dragonborn package. The titular Oblivion gates that are littered across the map are also a sight to behold before they get stale. Beyond that, most of the land features grassy plains, rocky mountains, the enormous Imperial City, and a whole lot more. Oblivion, meanwhile, takes place in Cyrodiil, which also features snow-covered areas, especially in the northern frontier that borders Skyrim. It isn’t the most varied when it comes to biomes, and after a while, you’re going to get tired of all the icy doom and gloom that is present throughout the land of Skyrim. East, west, north and south, there’s just snowy mountains and towns everywhere. Like it or not, Skyrim is just covered in snow. From the get-go, Oblivion is a lot more open-ended, giving players a general quest instead of thrusting them into a fated destiny. Oblivion, on the other hand, has you seeking out the chosen one, who has the power to stop the invading Daedra from destroying the world. Skyrim bucked the trend by making you the Dragonborn, a sort of chosen one who is destined to save the world. Typically, each game in the series has you in the shoes of some sort of recently escaped convict, who gained their freedom through some sort of divine intervention. So, if you’re patiently waiting for Elder Scrolls VI and are sick of Skyrim, here are some reasons why you should return to the world of Cyrodiil and why Bethesda should definitely remake this game for modern systems.įor all intents and purposes, Skyrim was very much a more streamlined and watered-down take on the Elder Scrolls formula.
